Does Your Home Need Repairs?
If you own your home – and you are unable or cannot afford to
do needed repairs yourself – Rebuilding Together may be the answer.
Rebuilding Together is a national non-profit, volunteer organization that
provides free repairs to homeowners in need. Skilled and unskilled volunteers
do the work, which can include painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical
work, during a weekend in April. These repairs are done at no cost to the
homeowner. We are now accepting applications for the Rebuilding Weekend of
April 24, 2010.
Keep in mind that repairs are made by volunteers during the last weekend
in April. Therefore, even if your house is selected, we may not be able
to make all the repairs you request. Our House Leadership Teams will evaluate
the requested repairs and do their best to match time and resources to
the repairs.
How Does Rebuilding Together Work?
If you are an older or disabled person, or have small children living
at home, and meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for this
assistance. To be considered for selection in 2010, you must meet the
following criteria:

- You currently live in the home that is in need of repairs
- The home that is in need of repairs is within the county limits of Essex County, NJ
- The total annual income of all income-earners living within the home
(and not paying rent) is at or below the “low income” standards

Rebuilding Together, Essex County, NJ will focus primarily on applications
from homes with elderly, disabled persons, or small children. Additionally,
in order to best utilize our financial and volunteer resources, we will
consider only neighborhoods that have at least four or more eligible applicants.
Accordingly, the more applications that are sent from your neighborhood,
the better your chances of having your home selected. So get your neighbors
to send in their applications, too.
